Spotlight | Summer At The Comfort Food Cafe – Debbie Johnson

So I’ve been off blogging for a while as you’ve probably noticed, only popping up every so often for blog tours! I’ve been getting ready for so long now for my move to the USA – Things got a bit manic in the last few months but I’ve now been here for 5 weeks! I’ve got a car and a job so I’m settling in well! I have still been reading (mostly during my lunch break – there’s a swing seat right by the water. It’s possibly the most beautiful place anyone could work!!) so I’m going to be doing some spotlights for the books I’ve been reading!

First up today is Summer At The Comfort Food Cafe by Debbie Johnson.

Summer at the comfort food cafe

The Comfort Food Cafe is perched on a windswept clifftop at what feels like the edge of the world, serving up the most delicious cream teas; beautifully baked breads, and carefully crafted cupcakes. For tourists and locals alike, the ramshackle cafe overlooking the beach is a beacon of laughter, companionship, and security – a place like no other; a place that offers friendship as a daily special, and where a hearty welcome is always on the menu.

For widowed mum-of-two Laura Walker, the decision to uproot her teenaged children and make the trek from Manchester to Dorset for the summer isn’t one she takes lightly, and it’s certainly not winning her any awards from her kids, Nate and Lizzie. Even her own parents think she’s gone mad.

But following the death of her beloved husband David two years earlier, Laura knows that it’s time to move on. To find a way to live without him, instead of just surviving. To find her new place in the world, and to fill the gap that he’s left in all their lives.

Her new job at the cafe, and the hilarious people she meets there, give Laura the chance she needs to make new friends; to learn to be herself again, and – just possibly – to learn to love again as well.

For her, the Comfort Food Cafe doesn’t just serve food – it serves a second chance to live her life to the full…

This was first published back in 2016 but I received this and the 4th book in the series to review on Netgalley. I absolutely adored this story. So much in fact that I went straight to Amazon and bought the two middle ones. Which I very rarely do. I just had to know what happened next!

On Goodreads it’s been given mostly 4* and 5* ratings with some fantastic reviews. It made me laugh and it made me cry – there are so many touching moments throughout the whole book. I think I was in constant tears for the last 25%. The characters are all so real – they seem to come alive and it’s almost as if you’re sitting in the Comfort Food Cafe with them joining in with all the banter. Cherie seems to know exactly what everyone’s comfort food is and it made me wonder what she’d pick for me.

I absolutely urge my readers to go on amazon and buy this book! You can get a copy here:

Let me know what you think!

Love Roxy xx
